Watford Philharmonic Society is delighted to be performing Bach’s masterpiece, the great Mass in B Minor. This is widely considered to be one of the wonders of the musical repertoire - an evening not to be missed.
The orchestra and choir will be under the baton of their resident conductor, Michael Cayton. The B Minor Mass was one of Bach’s last compositions, completed in 1749, the year before his death. This Mass marks a high peak of the Baroque, paving the way for masterpieces to come from Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Never performed in its entirety during Bach’s lifetime, audiences had to wait almost a further 100 years before its first complete performance. It is now a firm favourite with performers and audiences alike.
